Model Connections
Prepare a model, check its source, and know how its usage is managed.
Choose a source
On a narrow screen, scroll the table sideways to see all columns.
| Source | Prepare | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Kalamos platform | An account with access to an available platform model. | Kalamos access and Credits. |
| Your API | Provider address, exact model ID, and API credential. | The provider’s account and billing. |
| Supported subscription | An app-supported source and a usable subscription account. | The provider’s subscription quotas and rules. |
Personal APIs and subscription connections are desktop features. The web app uses available platform models. An existing subscription is usable only when the app supports its connection method.
Set up an API connection
Open model settings
In the desktop app, open Settings and the Models page. Choose Add model, then the API source or compatible connection supported by your provider.
Enter the connection details
Use the address and model ID supplied by the provider. Give the connection a recognizable name and enter its API credential in the dedicated field.
Save and inspect available models
Save the connection. Read the returned model list or enter the required model information. Check capability and availability labels.
Test a model
If Test this model is available, run a small test and read the result. A real test may use provider quota.
Select it for your task
Return to the conversation or workshop and choose this model. Verify both the model name and source before starting.
| Item | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connection name | Your own recognizable label; it does not change the provider’s model ID. |
| Service address | The API base address documented by the provider, not its marketing homepage or a chat page. |
| Model ID | The exact identifier supported by that provider. Similar display names may refer to different models. |
| API credential | A private credential from that provider. Do not put it in a prompt, screenshot, or feedback email. |
Connect a supported subscription
In Add model, choose a supported subscription source and follow the authorization flow shown by the app. After returning, check that models are listed and available; a signed-in account alone does not prove that a particular model can run.
If a source is unavailable in the current build, do not substitute a different credential type. Use another supported source or consult the troubleshooting guide.
Read model labels
| Label | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Text | The connection advertises text generation. |
| Tools | Relevant to project actions; actual use also depends on runtime readiness and permissions. |
| Image understanding / generation | Two distinct abilities. One does not imply the other. |
| Listed | The provider returned a catalog entry; it may not have been individually tested. |
| Test passed | A connection test succeeded at that time; quotas and service availability can still change. |
| Not configured / unavailable | Complete configuration or resolve the indicated problem before sending. |
Check usage before a longer task
The same display name can appear under different sources. Check the selected source so you know which account handles the request. Platform Credits, your own API bill, and subscription quota are separate.
Access and usage →If the connection fails
- Address: compare it with the provider’s documented API address.
- Model ID: check spelling and whether the account can use that model.
- Credential: check validity and scope in the provider’s account; never send it to support.
- Availability: check the app’s exact error for quota, rate limit, network, or authorization issues.
